The story of "The Green Dragon"

March 21, 2019

The story of the Green Dragon, is legend in my art world. I retell it every year on the Spring Equinox. In 2014, finishing a large body of work focused on the energy of the Four Seasons, I had a blank canvas remaining under my disaster of a messy work table. Tired , and heavily painted myself, I looked at a large bucket of mixed color green paint that surely was to go to waste. I studied the exquisite empty white gold canvas for just a moment and spontaneously hurled the bucket of green to the blank canvas. Two throws only and the Green Dragon had emerged. It was and is my most stunning painting experience.

The Dragon formed itself; a perfect reflection of the Season theme, although I did not know it at the time.. When I posted this miraculous story on social media, a Facebook Friend informed me that the Green Dragon was the Tibetan symbol of the Spring Equinox. This convinced me completely that we artists are just the vehicle, if we are lucky, for the divine inspiration to flow. Today the Green Dragon flies from it’s home by Lake Michigan.

In the collection of Marty Mueller.
